Jazz is a highly expressive and unique genre of music. It is a quintessentially American form of music that relies heavily on improvisation, polyrhythms and syncopation.
This class borrows techniques from modern dance and concentrates on personal and artistic expression. Students will move to contemporary music from many genres and will explore the stylized use of
the techniques in theater, concert dance, popular music videos and film.
Tap dance students will study the varied styles of the art form, borrowing from the traditional film and broadway styles of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers and Tommy
Tune to the Nicholas Brothers, Honi Coles, Maurice and Gregory Hines and Savion Glover to the modern stylings seen today on television shows like America's Got Talent. Ensemble movements and
clean sound creation will be emphasized as well as the development of stage presence and performance quality. Many boys and young men are introduced to the dance arts through Tap dance.
These classes are suitable for children and adults of all ages and skill levels.
** Childrens' Tap classes are 45 mins long. Teen/Adult classes are 60 minutes.
Courses for jazz, tap and modern dance are available in weekly 45-minute or 60-minute open sessions. Children ages 3 - 18 are required to register for weekly lessons. Advanced teens may purchase class card as an alternative, with instructor's permission. For more information, please contact us.
