She performed with the company for seven years, the last three as a soloist in works by Gene Hill Sagan, Talley Beatty, Milton Myers, Lloyd Whitmore, Bernard Lias, Louis Johnson and Donald Lunsford II. Instructors during her formative years include Delores Browne and Marion Cuyjet in Ballet, Joan Myers Brown and Harold Pierson in Dunham technique, Sarah Conway and Al Perryman in Modern Jazz, Jimmie Truitte, Faye Snow and Milton Myers in Horton technique, Miguel Lopez in Limon technique and Denise Jefferson and Pat Thomas in the Martha Graham technique.
After leaving Philadanco, Karin performed with the DC Contemporary Dance Theater in works by Gene Hill Sagan, Adrain Bolton and LLoyd Whitmore and with the Chamber Contemporary Dance Theater in New York. She has also worked as a choreographic assistant to Louis Johnson, Lloyd Whitmore and Gene Hill Sagan and as the Rehearsal Director for Philadanco. Her commercial work includes the Aretha Franklin Revue at Drumpf's Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City.
In addition to performing and teaching Karin has earned her BS in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University. She and her husband Linwood, have five children and five grandchildren.
Linwood Tucker, BSEE, MBA, Assistant Director
Linwood, is our force behind the scenes. He has been instrumental in helping our founder, Karin, bring her vision to light. His responsibilities include managing the finances, supervising all renovations and operations of our studio, and marketing.
After leading his Petersburg High School football team to a state championship, Linwood attended Virginia State University on a full athletic scholarship. A neck injury ended his dreams of playing professional football and he enlisted in the Army where he excelled as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. After 12 years of service, he returned to school to earn degrees in Electronics Engineering and a Masters in Business Administration.
Linwood currently works as a Cyclotron Engineer for the National Institutes of Health in the Nuclear Medicine division. He is an avid antique watch collector and is a member of several watch collecting groups and online forums.
